Re-encountering the Past?

Rather than getting into the action in Germany, Philip and his team are on the move in Israel as part of our summer mission trips! With a dual focus of work and study, the team came back with all kinds of experiences to share. For one, they were able to learn from the history, landscape, and culture that Jesus resided in so long ago. For another, they dove into the ministry of Philip’s friends who is a pastor in the area where they helped to renovate apartments of Holocaust survivors. Hearing the stories of some of the survivors was unforgettable and almost indescribable.

One of the most powerful moments happened after one of the men had related his experience fleeing during the Holocaust. He insisted that the team couldn’t leave with tears but that he wanted them to leave with joy in the form of a song. Regardless of whether it is in history or in personal experience, re-encountering the past is always moving.
