About Us
The Tapestry Project is a social project for and with refugees from Kirche in Aktion in Darmstadt. As a church, we have been working on various projects with refugees in Darmstadt since 2015. With the Tapestry Project we would like to expand this work and support people with a refugee background in our city in a sustainable, long-term and holistic way.
Building bridges - we want to promote relationships between people of different backgrounds, cultures and religions.
Sharing life - we want to help people who have lost their home to find a piece of home.
Creating perspectives - we want to support people in building a new life and living out their potential.
A TAPESTRY IS WOVEN FROM DIFFERENT THREADS THAT TOGETHER CREATE AN ARTISTIC PICTURE. A COLORFUL “WOVEN” COMMUNITY EMERGES WHEN PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS SHARE LIVES. WE ARE CONVINCED THAT EVERYONE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO bring out the best in OUR CITY.
What We Do
Tapestry Center
At the Tapestry Center
- Refugees, children, young people and adults, from all countries alike, always find an open ear and can simply belong.
- Various activities enable community development and promote togetherness as well as providing resources that support people when they arrive in our city.
- People can contribute and develop their ideas and skills.
Guidance and Support
It is not easy to find your way in a new country with an unfamiliar language and culture. That’s why we offer services and guidance on questions such as understanding documents and letters, contacting and communicating with doctors, authorities and immigration agencies. We also guide people in the process of finding new perspective and rebuilding their life (e.g. in the application process).
Building Friendships
Intercultural friendships enrich life and create a sense of belonging. With a network of volunteers, we visit refugee families to learn from each other and build relationships.
